Grand Knight’s Message

Brothers,

I returned from our State Convention on Sunday afternoon. Overall, it was pleasant.

I was impressed with a banner which was hung on the wall behind the podium. On it read an acronym: FAITH. The letters stood for: Fraternity, Attitude, Integrity, Trust, and Honesty.

Some speeches weren't as interesting as others, and I found myself looking at the banner and looking forward to sharing with you what I had seen.

These simple words define our order and could be a great talking point when we tell prosepctive men about our club. When someone asks you, "What's the KC's about anyway?" You can say, "FAITH", and then rattle off the words.

Who wouldn't want to be part of a group which stood for such things?

We're planning recruitment in a big way in the next few weeks for a big 1st degree in June, and you're part of it.

Tell one eligible man about the KC's. When they say they don't have time (and they probably will), ask them if they can offer us an hour a year.

Brothers, it is safe to say that we'd rather have a man dedicated to one hour a year consistently, than men who are Knights in name only.

At various ceremonies at church, we are asked to renew our baptismal promises. If you haven't attended a degree proceeding in a long time, you should. It'll provide a gentle reminder of the day when you walked that path and progessed in the order.

Yours in Service,

Pete Centner

Grand Knight

Preliminary Reports

*A final accounting for the Smelt Fry has not been accomplished. It is estimated atthis time that the net income from the project will be in excess of $4,000.00. A finalreport will be made in the next Notes for Knights. The funds from the Smelt Fry are given to Nativity School for scholarships.

*Your council sold more than three Charity Raffle tickets per member and therefore is eligible for a $100.00 bonus from the State Charity Fund. There were no winners from the Rhinelander area for the major prizes of the Charity Raffle. The Second Chance Drawing will be conducted at the May Business Meeting.

Chaplain’s Message

Recently I found I needed to leave my car at the garage for repairs overnight. Thus I was without a car for one full day. I needed to consider my options for getting around town, especially between our two sites (thankfully I did not need to go out to St. John’s in Pelican Lake on this day).

I was sure I could call around to members of the parish and someone would have a car I could use. Two years ago when I hit a bear and my car was in for repairs I rented a car from Enterprise. This was quite reasonable, so I thought an option. However I decided I would ride my bike instead.

I am glad I chose this option, as it was a marvelous day, truly a Spirit filled day.

The day started with my biking to our St. Joseph’s site to work for awhile in the Parish Office. As the morning progressed, I knew I had to go to our school at the St. Mary’s site. However I also had a noon meeting in the downtown area. There was a message for me to visit someone at Friendly Village at some point in the day as well. Finally it was the day during the week I usually visit the hospital.

What I found is I had to plan my day carefully, because I didn’t want to ride more miles than I really needed to. I also found I was on time for every appointment, because I needed to allow extra time for biking to where I needed to be. I definitely drank more water during the course of the day than I usually do. Finally, I really sensed I felt less stressed at the end of the day, more hungry for supper, and ready for bed at night. However I believe that throughout the day I felt like I had more energy, simply enjoyed the day more, and had fun waving to people who drove by or who I saw on the side of the road.

Now, I was glad to get my car back the next day, especially since the temperature dropped overnight. I plan to ride my bike to work and around town again this summer, though I am not quite ready to give up my car completely. But I truly believe I did experience the presence of God a little more that day.

Knights of Columbus Chaplet of Divine Mercy Prayer Group

Dear Fellow Knights of Columbus,

In the wake of hearing about the severe illnesses hitting some of the youngest members of our parish, (a small one year old with cancer, and a young mother with cancer), I have been entrusted with any idea to involve the KC's in pleading for Divine assistance for these and any other persons in desperate need of God's mercy and healing power.

Gentleman, what I am proposing is a voluntary group of Knights and Auxiliary members, who would approach our Lord for those who are in such need. This group would be led by the Knights, reciting the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for the petitions we receive and those we bring with us. The Group would meet once per week during Wednesday Adoration at the hour of Divine Mercy, (3pm), during adoration at the St. Joseph's Site.

As you all know, Jesus promised that if the Chaplet was prayed for or by someone at the point of death, that he, himself, would bring them home. The power of the Chaplet is not only for the dying, however; it is an extremely powerful prayer for help, and an extremely powerful weapon against evil. If we beg for God's mercy, humbly, and honestly, he will never deny us.

As Knights and Auxiliary Members, we have been given the duty to not only defend the faith, but lead others back home to God, and to work for both the physical and spiritual health of the parish and its members.

Won't you join me in begging for God's Mercy and Grace to be poured down upon those who need it most? Let us come together as Knights, for the good of those who need us. With all the attacks on Christianity happening across the country, our parish needs us now more than ever, so please call me as soon as possible if you are able and willing to help.

Thank you and God Bless You All!

Kip Smith,

3rd Degree member of Rhinelander Council 2032(Home phone = 715-330-4447 / Cell Phone = 507-261-7202)

Divine Mercy Sunday

The Knights of your Council 2032 helped make the Divine Mercy Sunday celebration at St. Mary's site a huge success. This was the largest showing in the 9 year history of the event, with around 60 people attending!! Organizer, Karen Panko, had been expecting 20, so when so many people attended, she was thrilled! The Knights took an active roll in facilitating the discussion and sharing portion in the beginning, leading the recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy in song, and then serving the pot luck meal afterward. Both the participants and the organizers were very thankful for the involvement of our council and can't wait to see it grow again next year! Special thanks to Grand Knight Pete Centner as our representative in the planning of the event and the purchase of the large Divine Mercy image, which was donated to the church by our council. Also special thanks to Brother Clete Gillus, who made the wooden frame for the image, and extra special thanks to Brother Gary Johnson who was the main server in the event, and to all the Knights and their wives who were in attendance. Everyone working together made this a moving event, filled with God's love, companionship of all who came, and further continued our mission of building the Church community! Thank you one and all! God Bless!

Financial Secretary

As of this date we have many Knights who have yet to pay their dues for 2010. A second request has been sent out 2 weeks ago, with little response. Hopefully we can get all our dues up to date by mid May before all the Holidays and summer months.

Fraternally;

Roger Shandley, Financial Secretary
