Grand Knight’s Message

Recently, I watched the movie "The Bucket List". If you haven't had the chance to rent it, I'll tell you that it centers on two men who are dealing with terminal illnesses and compose a list of things they'd like to do before they "kick the bucket". Incidentally, a great deal of humor enhances these end-of-life issues with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, and I don't feel that this movie will bring you down.

I actually found it inspiring to create our own list: Things we ought to do. I ask you brothers: What would be on your list, and further; what are you waiting for? If you knew you only had so much time, how would you reset your priorities? Take a cruise? Read a great novel? Spend more time with family? Maybe you'd help your brothers with some KC events during the year.....just checking. I know that for most of you I'm preaching to the choir; you live life to the fullest. I'd only suggest that we reflect a bit on what's really important and ask ourselves how we fit in the picture.

A blessed Advent season to all of you. See you around.

Pete Centner

Chaplain’s Message

This past weekend I had the opportunity to travel with 16 high school students from our parish and five other adults to the National Catholic Youth Conference in Kansas City, Missouri.

We left on Thursday morning at 2:30 a.m. and met up with youth from Tomahawk, Philips and Eagle River. Together we filled a motor coach bus. We arrived in Kansas City at about 3:00 p.m. and after checking into our motel and grabbing a quick supper, we were off to the Sprint Center, which is Kansas City’s arena. There we were joined by 21,000 additional youth from throughout the country. This was the largest gathering for the National Catholic Youth Conference, which has been in existence for 30 years. The Conference is held ever two years.

The Conference involved both large group and small group sessions. Speakers included a Cardinal Archbishop, Bishops, popular Catholic musicians, and Catholic youth. All of the large group sessions also included a lot of music, as did many of the smaller sessions. There was also Eucharistic Adoration, many of the youth celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and of course there was Mass.

You, as Knights, help fund this trip, providing money to cover breakfast for the youth. It is important to start the day out right, especially when we were waking up before 6:00 a.m. and not returning to the motel until after 11:00 p.m.

At one of the upcoming meetings (we are shooting for this months meeting) we will be bringing a few of the youth to our KC meeting to speak with you and tell you about their pilgrimage.

Father John Gerritts

Chaplain

Knights of Columbus Chaplet of Divine Mercy Prayer Group

Dear Fellow Knights of Columbus,

In the wake of hearing about the severe illnesses hitting some of the youngest members of our parish, (a small one year old with cancer, and a young mother with cancer), I have been entrusted with any idea to involve the KC's in pleading for Divine assistance for these and any other persons in desperate need of God's mercy and healing power.

Gentleman, what I am proposing is a voluntary group of Knights and Auxiliary members, who would approach our Lord for those who are in such need. This group would be led by the Knights, reciting the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for the petitions we receive and those we bring with us. The Group would meet once per week during Wednesday Adoration at the hour of Divine Mercy, (3pm), during adoration at the St. Joseph's Site.

As you all know, Jesus promised that if the Chaplet was prayed for or by someone at the point of death, that he, himself, would bring them home. The power of the Chaplet is not only for the dying, however; it is an extremely powerful prayer for help, and an extremely powerful weapon against evil. If we beg for God's mercy, humbly, and honestly, he will never deny us.

As Knights and Auxiliary Members, we have been given the duty to not only defend the faith, but lead others back home to God, and to work for both the physical and spiritual health of the parish and its members.

Won't you join me in begging for God's Mercy and Grace to be poured down upon those who need it most? Let us come together as Knights, for the good of those who need us. With all the attacks on Christianity happening across the country, our parish needs us now more than ever, so please call me as soon as possible if you are able and willing to help.

Thank you and God Bless You All!

Kip Smith,

1st Degree member of Rhinelander Council 2032
